BEGINNER WORKSHOPS
​

  In this workshop your start from scratch at the on/off switch. Our instructor will thoroughly cover each feature through hands on explanations and demonstrations. Join and let us wisp you step by step and transform sewing into a fun and exciting experience. Our mission is to equip attendees with the confidence and  knowledge to  utilize a sewing machine. 

      Attendees will be expertly guided through the steps to begin a journey in sewing. This workshop focuses on the foundation of sewing by demonstrating the anatomy of the sewing machine. An overview of the machine settings, upper threading/bobbin, attachments, and some basic troubleshooting. An awareness of the notions needed to complete sewing projects. One 3-hour workshop, will not cover a fraction of the information needed to fully comprehend the art of sewing. However, our beginner workshop will introduce you to the art of sewing and with continuous workshops your learn how to follow a seam allowance to sew a straight stitch along with zigzag, curves and pivot corners. 

During this workshop you will learn:

  •  The anatomy of a sewing machine along with an overview of the different attachments

  •  How to thread a sewing machine, make and insert the bobbin

  • Stitch lengths, thread tensions, alignments, and seam guides

  • Common thread and bobbin tension problems

  • The use of sewing tool notions

  • Measure, pinning, and cutting

  • Different fabrics and their use

  • Basic pattern cutting, cut-out fabric for the projects you'll sew

  • Straight seams, curves, pivot corners, zig zag and back stitch 

Examples of workshop projects:

Hobo bag, Pillows, Grocery bag holders, Tote bags, Wine bottle holders, Aprons, Hair Scrunchies, Satin hair bonnets, the list goes on...

Projects change daily.

BUTTONS & BUTTONHOLES

Sew, let's learn how to sew buttons and buttonholes. This workshop is designed to equip attendees with the knowledge of implementing buttons & buttonholes.

During this workshop you will learn:

  • Learn how to use the buttonhole presser foot

  • Prepare the placement of the buttonhole  

  • Construct buttons and buttonholes using a sewing machine and the old fashioned hand way.

OUR WORKSHOPS

INTERMEDIATE WORKSHOPS

Sew, you’ve mastered the skill to sew a straight line. Ready to take your sewing to the next level?

This workshop builds off the beginner workshop, attendees will leave with a more challenging project in hand. All the essentials from beginner workshop will be reinforced, along with an introduction to more stitches & seam finishes and understand how to read and cut-out a commercial pattern.

During this workshop you will learn:

 

  • Review of beginner sewing fundamentals

  • New sewing machine settings procedures and attachments

  • Stitching, seam allowances/finishes and basic hemming techniques

  • Focus more closely on the construction of a skirt, pair of pants, pockets

  • Interfacing, lining, top stitch, strap construction

  • Intro into how to read a commercial pattern

  • Pattern cutting techniques at an intermediate level

Example of workshop projects:

Skirt, Shorts, PJ bottoms, Tote Bag, Purse

 

***Note We recommend prior knowledge of inserting zippers &/or Buttonholes. Attendees have option to take a zipper or buttonhole workshop before registering for this workshop. 

ZIPPER WORKSHOPS

              ZIP 1

Sew, you want to learn how to input a zipper, let us Sip and Zip together. In this 3-hour workshop, attendee will learn about selecting zippers, shortening techniques, and the zipper foot attachment. Attendees will input a zipper onto a garment which they must first sew together. Sew, sewists must know how to sew or complete a few beginner workshops first. 

  • Center and Exposed zipper insertion

Examples of projects: Pillow, Wristlet, Pouch, Tote Bag...

 

             ZIP 2

During this 3- hour workshop we will conquer the next levels of zipper installations with the fly-front and invisible zipper. Our instructors will demonstrate detailed hands-on techniques for installing a fly-front zipper used in pants and jeans. Attendees will learn the uses of an invisible zipper and how to install one.

*All attendees must have completed the beginner zipper workshop

  • Attendees will install a fly-front/ lapped zipper

  • Invisible zipper installation

PRIVATE SEW TIME

ADVANCED WORKSHOPS

                 Sew, you made it!

     In this workshop we will make a complete fitted garment from a commercial pattern.

Create your own unique, one-of-a-kind clothing item.

During this workshop you will learn:

  • Advanced seam finishes and stitches

  • Different types of pockets

  • Learn to work with new fabrics

  • Full understanding of commercial / digital patterns.

  • The construction of an one-of -a-kind creation 

*Advanced workshop requires you have taken the Zipper and Button & Buttonhole workshops.

    SEW PACKAGE

Sew you want to expand your skills,
Sip N' Sew to the rescue. Grab a sew package and receive 7 workshops. Sewists can purchase a sew package  for Beginner, Intermediate and Children. Move your journey forward
and purchase a sew package. Our Sew Packages are 3- hour long, and covers more in-depth the learning aspect listed under the beginner, intermediate and children's workshops details. Sewist will complete 6 different sewing projects at various sewing levels depending on their experience. 
Example of projects: Apron, Tote Bag, Neck Pillow, Faux Leather Wristlet... 

        CHILDREN'S                WORKSHOP

Sew, you have a little one the want to learn how to sew. Sip N' Sew to the rescue. Your child will be introduced to sewing via a sewing machine and by hand. Our children's workshop covers ages 6-12 years old. The projects sewn in these workshops will definitely depend on the age of your child. The children's workshop will follow the basic outline of the Beginner's Workshop. The elements taught in the beginner workshop are the main guidelines of the art of sewing. Age appropriate children will also be introduced to hand sewing. An more in depth coverage of hand sewing is included in OUR CHILDREN'S SEW PACKAGE. 
*Children 13 & up can register in our Beginner Workshop

OPEN SEW TIME

Need a place to sew or finish a project? Not ready to be fully independent on your own at home. For those sewists familiar with using a sewing machine, this is the workshop for you!

During open sew time attendees will work independently, minimum assistance will be provided. The instructor will be present to help you set up the machine and answer any questions for you as needed. 

    Sewists will have the opportunity to utilize everything within our walls however sewists must bring your own fabric & supplies. Sew, relax with your favorite beverage and take advantage of our serene environment.

Bring in just about any sewing project, remake a previous project, or ask us for a project, perhaps do your own alterations. Open Sew is also a great way to practice sewing in between leveling up skill levels.
